You Are Invited

We are pleased to invite you to the 9th Symposium of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in October of 2015

The Digital Earth vision was first proposed by Al Gore in 1998, and has evolved to keep pace with rapid developments in earth-sensing, cloud computing, and Big Data. The ISDE takes a dynamic view of Digital Earth as the digital nervous system of the globe, using sensor networks and situation-aware systems to inform in real-time about events on or close to the Earth’s surface.

Canada is in the forefront of research and development in the fields of geomatics, geospatial research, and environmental monitoring. Nova Scotia has a large cluster of agencies and institutions related to geomatics, digital technologies, and the environment, with regional and specialist agencies of many government departments, and world-class research at local universities and colleges.

Conference Themes

At ISDE 2015 up to 1,000 scientists, engineers, technologists, and environmental managers from around the world will meet to share concepts, research findings, technologies, and practical applications relating to the Digital Earth vision. Our conference will include themes from the entire spectrum of the Digital Earth vision, and will highlight applications related to Nova Scotian expertise in ocean and atmospheric sciences. Our themes are:

1 Digital Earth Concepts, Technologies, Infrastructure
Concepts, hardware, and software for transmitting, storing, and analyzing geographic information.

2 Earth Observation & Monitoring
Observation systems for collecting, monitoring, and managing data of global and regional environmental conditions, resources, and hazards.

3 Managing The Blue Planet
Multi-disciplinary methods to forecast and adapt to environmental change, mitigate natural hazards, and support sustainable development.

4 Digital Earth & The Citizen
Innovative technologies to encourage citizen involvement in global monitoring and environmental sustainability, and policies to minimize their intrusive effects.

5 Digital Earth Education & Outreach
The Symposium will publicize the Digital Earth vision and capabilities to the public at-large, and particularly to youth.

Check back to our website regularly for updates, or contact our conference organizers at ISDE2015@agendamanagers.com with any specific questions.
